A young woman (katherine MacColl) inherits a hotel that turns out to be built on one of the 7 gateways to hell.Soon after she moves in people start dying in allsorts of gory ways and zombies start taking over.Directed by the late lucio fulci,this is considered by many to be his masterpiece,and it has some excellent gore scenes allthough whoever created the spiders for the library scene should have been the first to be fed to the zombies.This is one of my personal faves and is well worth checking out.

A young boy and girl are treated badly by their mothers lover,They kill him,but his spirit gets trapped in a mirror and years later returns to haunt the now grown up kids and to kill everyone around them.This is basiclly a slasher film but the supernatural edge to it makes it a pretty decent film and the gore scenes are fairly well done considering the low budget.Worth a look.

bunch of crooks kidnap a young girl and dissapear into the jungle after someone tips off the authorities as to where they are.They are eventually caught by a tribe of cannibals who take the young girl under their wing and kill the crooks.I have seen some crap movies in my time but this really dose rank towards the top of that list.the cannibals can be seen laughing in the background during some of the scenes,the acting is awful,and the gore scenes are just stupid with no attempt to even make them look convincing.Easily the worst of all the cannibal films and one of the worst films on the list.

A low budget Alien rip off in which eggs,laid by a one eyed monster,explode near people covering them in a sticky goo and a few seconds later,POP,their stomachs explode spraying intestines everywhere.Its finally up to ex astronaught ian McCulloch (zombie flesh eaters),to track down the creature and put an end to its plans.All in all this movie isn't to bad,and if your a fan of these low budget italian films then you can do a lot worse with 90 mins of your time.Now re-released in the uk fully uncut with a 15 certificate,it just gose to show how much times have changed eh?.

In the small costal town of potters bluff the local mortician has discovered a way to bring the dead back to life,but in order for this to happen they must first die in a very violent way.When the local sheriff starts to investigate the murders he begins to realise the terrible truth behind them,but even then,the worst is yet to come.Personally,this is one of my faves on the list and it has some great performances,is well made and the gore and violence is pretty graphic in places.Well worth a look.

Directed by tobe hooper,this low budget movie is about a redneck hotel owner who likes to feed his guests the his pet alligator that he keeps in the swamp next to his hotel.Marilyn burns,who was tied up and terrorized in tobe hoopers other movie the texas chainsaw massacre stars in this film and gose through the same treatment again only this time its all done with a large dose of black comedy.Not a bad film,but its hard to see why this ended up on the list.

Ivan rassimov stars as a photographer who has to flee into the jungle after he kills somebody in a bar fight.Soon after he is captured by a cannibal tribe and tortured but later on he is accepted by them and becomes one of them.This also stars the lovely Me Me Lay and was the film that started the italian cannibal movie influx of the late 70s, early 80s.Its not the worst of the cannibal movies and if your a fan of them its worth checking out.But as usual in these films there is a fair amount of real animal cruelty which is not pleasent to watch.

A group of ex vietnam vets go around executing criminals who managed to escape justice.Eventually one of them gose a bit to far and begins bumping off everybody he comes across.A friend of one of the victims helps the police to track down the killer but in the end everybody dies during a shoot out at the films depressing climax.Not exactly an entertaining film to sit through and the gore is minimal.Chances are this was banned because of the subject matter rather than whats in the film.Either way,your not missing much.

A young man is abused by his mother when he was young (she used to hold his arms over the flames of the gas cooker),but now he is grown up he turns the tables on her and sets her on fire in the basement of his house.Realising this is fun he modifies the basement into a fireproof room and then gose about bringing young women back to the house where he ties them up and burns them to death.This is a pretty nasty and depressing film to sit through and was originally to be called the burning untill another film got there first.

When the director of an insane asylum is axed to death the inmates take control of it,and when a new nurse arrives to start work there all seems fine untill she discovers all is not what it seems and people around her start dying.This isn't a bad film and has some pretty cool characters and a fair amount of gore to keep it interesting.In early 2005 this film was given an uncut video release by the BBFC with a 15 certificate.

5 people spend the weekend in a log cabin in the woods.While there they find a book and an audio cassette,while playing it,the passages that are read out wakes up long dorment demons who begin to take over the kids one by one untill only one of them is left to fight the evil.this is a great low budget,full on horror film that is full of knee jerk shocks,some really creepy scenes,loads of pretty disgusting gore,a dash of black comedy,wild camera work and excellent performences.Its a shame it got lumbered with a "nasty" tag in the early 80s as it diddn't really deserve it,but it's one film that every horror fan should have in their collection.Now released fully uncut on dvd,this is a film that will be watched and enjoyed long after most modern horror films have been long forgotten.

There is some sort of story here that concerns a bunch of medical people who are searching for the secrets of immortality by using cryogenics on human test subjects.The only problems is the test subjects turn into zombies.At least thats the impression i got between the bouts of sleep that this film induced.Why on earth this ever got included on the banned list is anyones guess, just be thankful this rubish has now vanished into obscurity.

Another in the endless influx of 80s slasher movies,this one concerns a bunch of teens who decide it would be fun to hide out in the fairground untill it has all closed down for the night.Before the fun can start they witness the murder of the carnivals fortune teller,and from then on its a game of cat and mouse as the teens are picked off one by one by a strange looking thing that hides behind a frankenstine mask.The empty,silent fairground setting is quite creepy at times,but theres nothing special about this film.In fact,its is pretty much a known fact that this eneded up on the banned list after being confused with the very nasty and graphic gore film, the last house on dead end street, which was also known as funhouse.

A young female nightclub singer is in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up being convicted of a murder she diddn't commit.She is taken to a mental hospital and is subjected to a strange psychological experiment which causes her to see and do strange things.Eventually she escapes and gets revenge on the doctor who put her through it all.This film starts out looking like it could be an ok way to pass 90 mins or so,but after the first 10 mins you realise this is not going to be the case and is one of those films that is allmost impossible to figure out why it ended up on the banned list. In fact there is some question as to whether this was actually an original nasty,allthough it did end up on most lists up and down the country at one point or another.

It is said that this film is based on the real life murder trial of a canadian estate agent.Elke sommers plays the victim who is shown being murdered in diffrent ways (having a building block dropped on her,electrocution,etc).The story is told in the form of flashbacks but the only thing this succeeds in doing is confusing the viewer.If you want to collect all 74 titles that appeared on the list then its worth tracking down,otherwise you can happily give this a miss.

This is dario argento's follow--up to suspiria and has leigh McCloskey going to new york to investigate the dissaperance of his sister,but as he digs deeper he discovers the hidden secrets of the house where she was staying and all around him people are dying after comming into contact with an old book called "the three mothers".This is a great film and contains (in my opinion) some of argento's best work.Thers plenty of good gore but it diddn't deserve its place on the banned list.

Anita ekberg plays the man hating,drug taking nun of the title who likes to supplement her devotions to god by having sex with,then killing off a handful of inmates at the mental asylum where she works.The film starts off well and the murder scenes are pretty nasty,but it dosen't amount to much in the end and turns out to be a fairly slow moving,depressing film.

Aldo lado directed this italian rip-off of wes cravens last house on the left which is actually alot better than most of its kind.two thugs rape and terrorize a couple of young girls on a night train and with the help of a depraved woman played by macha meril the girls are eventually murdered to end their misery.When the train reaches its destination the psychotic trio end up the guests of the dead girls parents and once the turth becomes clear,vengence is well and truly dished out.Hard to see this film being re-released any time soon,in fact its amazing how this wasn't classed as an official nasty.

Allthough a spanish/italian production, this excellent zombie movie was actually filmed in the uk amid the beautiful scenery of the lake district.Ray lovelock is an antique dealer who gets the blame for a series of brutal murders and has to prove (while staying one step of the police),that the real culprits are the dead that have been brought back to life by a goverment pest control machine that is emitting radiation.Some of the gore is pretty graphic and well done,there are some effective,creepy moments and overall this is one of the better zombie movies,well worth a look.

More of a psychological thriller than a straight out horror film,this is about a 17 year old teenager that has been rasied by his aunt after his parents were killed in a car crash when he was young,but she isn,t exactly sound of mind and will do anything to keep him around the house including killing off anyone who gets to close to him.This is a fairly decent movie with a good performence by susan tyrrell as the mad aunt,a great car crash at the beginning and some pretty decent gore at the end.

This is a surreal and very bizarre film about a young couple whose marrage is on the rocks.It turns out that she has been cheating on him with a large,slimy,octopus creature.Of course,he thinks she is totally insane and hires a couple of detectives to track her,but once they meet a sticky end and he sees just wahts going on he decides something must be done....or something like that anyway.There is plenty of pretty graphic and well done gore including the infamous miscarriage scene,but the art-house feel to it,and the fact thats its pretty slow moving in places can make it tough going.

Set in new guinea,this is one of the tamer of the cannibal flicks.There is some pretty nasty animal cruelty scenes and a couple of gory human cruelty scenes,but generally this is pretty slow moving and is mainly remembered because of the bits where ursula is stripped naked and painted up.As with most of these films the fact that filming them in the hot,sweaty and difficult conditions the jungle must have should command some respect,but apart from that its not exactly a well made effort.

Set 6 months after the original one,suzanna love reprises her role from the first film to once again do battle with the killer in the mirror.She has moved to L.A where a hollywood director wants to make a film about the events from the first film.But as you can imagine most of the cast and crew end up as victims.Most of the gore in this film is made up of flashbacks from the first film,and because that made the nasties list,this one was bound to.The first film was good,this one isn't.

killer is going round decapitating students at a boston collage in this average slasher film.Rachel ward from the thorn birds has the lead role and looks wonderful during a sexy shower scene and the film as a whole is pretty well made,but in the end its no diffrent from all other slasher films,the scripts not upto much and you can see the ending comming a mile off.Not a total waste of time,just dont be fooled by it's "nasty" status.

Another slasher film,only this time a maniac in a ski mask is hunting down the inhabitants of an apartment building ans finishing them off with his array of tools (hammer,drill,nail gun,screwdriver,etc).Yes its gory and yes its quite nasty, but its also very dull and boring and most of you will be fast forwarding to the gore scenes and giving the rest a wide birth.

Three young collage girls go on vacation,during their journey they crash the car and end up taking refuge in an old house that is owned by a man hating old woman,her very strange daughter and equally strange son.Its not long before the killings start,and one by one the girls are slain untill only one is left,she then has to fight for her life in scenes taken straight from the texas chainsaw massacre. there is some graphic,well done gore scenes,but when the acting,direction and the rest of the film is so awful the gore has little effect.

Michael ironside play a psycho killer who likes to photograph his dead victims.He develops a fixation with a local female tv reporter and starts to terroize her,after a failed attempt to kill her he follows her to the hospital where she has been taken to try to finish the job.He has made his mind up that nothing will stand in his way and as a result a few people are disposed off during his search but when he finds her she decides to turn the tables on him and gives him an acid facial.Like the film dont answer the phone this is one of those movies that probably wouldn't get made today in this politically correct age,and despite that fact that it is actually alot nastier and more sleezy than most films on the list it was shown uncut on uk tv a few years ago, needless to say the company got into quite a bit of trouble for that mistake. Well worth checking out.

millie perkins plays a slightly unhinged young woman who likes to have sex with various diffrent men then afterwards has even more fun slicing them up with a razor blade.Apparently she has grown up hating men because she was abused as a child by her dad.The films itself is quite well made with good performances from its stars,its also pretty nasty in places,but most people will find it to slow moving and strange to find it entertaining.worth a look if you can find a copy though.
WOMEN BEHIND BARS

A young woman is sent to a central american jungle prison for murder and is subjected to the usual round of indignities.At the end she manages to escape and finish off the female warden.This is a totally awful movie in every sense of the word but as it was directed by jess franco we shouldn't expect any diffrent.This is a perfect example of how stupid the whole nasties witch hunt was,if it hadn't been placed on the list this movie would have long since vanished and no one would have given it a second look. As it is though,it is now one of the hardest to find of all the nasties.

This is only one of two uk british films to have made the list,the other being expose.It concerns a family man who is kidnapped by aliens and returns 3 years later as a strange creature.The creature attacks a young woman who lives alone in an isolated farm house and the following morning she collapses on the floor and gives birth to a fully grown man,he then gose back to find the family he was taken from to collect his son.This is quite a strange movie and has a few pretty effective and nasty gore scenes,it could have been one of the nastier titles on the list but somehow you find yourself becoming more board than horrified.As with human experiments there is some doubt if this was an official nasty or not, it did appear on many list around the country so it mostly gets a mention when chats about the nasties strike up.

This is one crappy movie with bad acting,poor direction,dodgy gore effects and daft dialogue.Yet somehow it still manages to be quite entertaining.Its not on a par with any of fulci's zombie epics but if you can get hold of a fully uncut version (the tape here on this banned list from merln is cut),then you will find a couple of things to giggle at,and the female star of the film margit evelyn newton looks particuarly fetching in a scene where she runs towards topless towards the camera.Well worth a look for fans of bad movies.
