Joe D'amato's fairly brutal gorefest starring george eastman as a mental patient who gets injured during an escape attempt.He is taken to a hospital where.after his opperation he very quickly recovers and gose on a killing spree.Pickaxes,ovens,bandsaws,axes and surgical drills all feature heavily during the gore scenes which there are plenty of, and thats just as well as the rest of the film is fairly dull and slow moving. Medusa released two versions of this film on video, an uncut one that had a front and spine label on the tape, and a cut version that had the front label but no spine one, this was replaced with a small hologram sticker.

Another joe D'amato gorefest,this time a group of holiday makers are hunted down on a remote island by a mad killer who likes nothing better than to eat his victims.George eastman is back playing the beast of the title who enjoys a tasty snack of unborn foetus straight from the womb,and later adds his own intestines to the menu.Another film thats worth watching for the gore scenes only as the rest of the film is very boring. This film was also released in a cut version by a company called VIDEOSHACK, this version is now virtually impossible to find and an original can fetch anywhere between £400 - £600

Three psychos terrorize a small town and eventually take refuge in an out of the way farmhouse which is owned by a young girl and her crippled grandfather.the young girl is raped by a couple of the thugs and then decides to get her own back by finishing them off by using an axe and a razor blade.There is a nasty tone to the film but as the effects,acting and direction are all so amateurish it has little impact. How this movie was deemed to be obscene is a real mystery.

Another one of those films that shows the (mostly fictitious) attrocities that were performed in concentration camps during the second world war,(very unconvincingly in this case).A handfull of women are shagged to death in a cage by a small hairy man/beast who likes to rip out their pubic hair and eat it,someone has her fingernails pulled out and another is eaten alive by guinea pigs. A couple of the torture scenes are pretty nasty and the film as a whole is very sleezy, but sadly, not even the gore,sleeze and the sight of the beautiful macha magall playing the lead female ss officer can stop this movie from being pretty dull. Just to see this movie is a quest in itself as it is easily the most obscure and hardest to find of all the nasties. It was also released on the dutch "video for pleasure" label which seems to be the next best version to own next to the uk original, but this version is also very hard to find now and even this can sell for between £50.00 and £100 now.
BLOOD BATH

This slasher film directed by mario bava preceeded friday 13th and halloween by many years and has some great gore scenes showing unlucky teens getting axes in the face,being repeatedly stabbed and in a scene that became famous in the first friday film,two lovers are impaled on a bed while making love.This was re-released by redemption as "bay of blood" but was missing most of the gore.As far as these types of films go this is well worth tracking down.

H.G.lewis directed this low budget movie which has come to be reguarded as the first fully fledged gore film,and considering it was made in 1963 i guess there will be no arguments there.The plot concerns a caterer who plans on ressurecting the egyptian god ishtar.To do this he must collect various body parts to use in a ritual.When he is hired to cater for a young womans birthday party he sees this as a great oppertunity to carry out the ritual using the young woman as a sacrifice.The gore is very unconvincing by todays standards and the acting,direction and musical score are terrible.If your a H.G.lewis fan (i dare say there are a couple out there),then you will find something to like about this movie,others should steer well clear.

3 sisters and their husbands have to spend a night in their late fathers old house so they can inherit his fortune.Things go well untill they start getting attacked by a retard called colin whose hobby is eating baby rabbits (skin and fur included).Directed by the late andy milligan,this is a contender for worst film on the list.Its hard to imagine how a film this bad actually got a video release in the first place,let alone get banned.

If your a fan of jess franco then you will just about get through it,others should stay well clear

If you have seen any of the many 80s slasher movies (friday 13th, halloween, etc) then you will have no need to see this very average clone.Why this was singled out for inclusion on the nasties list is anyones guess.There are decent gore effects provided by tom savini but the rest of the film is very dull and slow moving.Put friday 13th back in your video and see how it should be done.

A small band of ex vietnam vets get together in the city of atlantis,usa and go on a flesh munching rampage.Hot on their trail are a bunch of cops who chase them down the sewers for a battle to the death.Directed by antonio margheriti and starring john saxon and john morgen,this is actually one of the better films on the nasties list,loaded with plenty of action and some pretty decent gore showing people being bitten,having their eyeballs squished and in one great scene one of the bad guys has a large hole blasted in his stomach so you can see right through him.This also puts an interesting twist on the subject by having cannibalism portrayed as a disease which is transmitted through the bite.If you can track down an uncut copy and have a strong stomach,this is worth a look.

One of the titles that deserves it's reputation as a "video nasty",this tells the story of three people who venture into a jungle in columbia to prove that cannibalism dose not exist (when will these people ever learn).While there they meet up with two drug dealers who have fled here from the city to escape some drug lords whom they pissed off.As the story unfolds it turns out that the druggies have killed and tortured some of the local tribes people and its not long before they are all fighting for their lives.This a violent and gory film thats not for the squeamish,just some of the gore highlights include one person having his arm,his penis and the top of his head lopped off,a woman is hung up with metal hooks through her breasts,another is gutted,and there is the usual round of pointless animal cruelty thrown in just to make sure that everyone offended in one way or another.

A group of filmakers venture into the jungle to make a documentary on a local tribe but they are never seen again.when a professor gose in search of them he finds them dead,he also finds the film footage they shot.Its only when this is viewed back in new york that the real story behind what happened becomes clear.There is a lot of animal cruelty that is virtually unwatchable but even the gore scenes involving humans is extreme and very convincing.The film is well made but is often to realistic for it's own good.This is an excellent film and well worth a look but it may be to graphic for many viewers in its uncut version, but be warned the recent uk releases are all heavily cut and even this pre-cert original was missing about 6 mins of its more extreme gore. The basic idea of this film was used again many years later in the blair witch project.

A young man who works at a slaughterhouse one day cracks up and gose on a killing spree.His victims include his girlfriend,his brother,his father and a cab driver but what he dosen't realise is that his crimes have been witnessed by a young gay man who lives opposite him.When the gay guy offers to help him get rid of the bodies he decides it would be better to turn himself in to the cops. Its a little to slow moving and depressing to be entertaining, but its not to bad all in all and at least worth a look. The slaughterhouse footage is a little grim but the rest of the effects are below par which takes the edge of some of the murder scenes.

One of the rarest titles on the infamous list and also one of the most awful.The "plot" has something to do with a model who is kidnapped by some bad actors who want a huge amount of money to let her go.She is taken to the jungle where she is protected by "the devil" who is actually a strange looking native who has stupid looking eyes and likes to rip out the stomachs of the human scarifices the tribe leave tied up for him.Al cliver is the hero who is sent to rescue her,which he dose after spending most of the film doing sod all but boring us to death.Nobody knows why it ever was or still is banned, just be thankful it is.

Surely a contender for worst film on the list,this terrible slasher movie concerns a group of teens who are on a camping trip and are attacked by a wild madman.Eventually the last two survivors team up with a fat sheriff and kill the madman.The acting is beyond awful,the gore is pathetic and.......well,there really isn't anything good that can be said about this rubbish. If you do manage to track down a copy of this video ( this is the only way you will see this film ), then wind forward to the end and listen to what must surely be the worst ever song to be put onto a movie soundtrack.

Abel ferrara directed and stars in this low budget tale of a drug addict who gose on a mission to clear the streets of new york of drunks and winos by dispatching them with the aid of a power drill.Often cited as the film that started the nasties craze back in the early 80s it dosen't really live upto its reputation.The murders are fairly nasty but it's not exactly a fast moving, entertaining movie, but the locations give it a real gritty edge and the performances are good.Worth a look.

A tubby nerd is the constant target of a bunch of bullies at a military academy.One day he stumbles across a book of black magik and using a computer he manages to raise the spirit of the satanist that is seen at the begining.When the bullies kill his pet puppy (a nasty and pointless scene) he snaps,and Using the new found power he has,the nerd then begins to turn the tables on the bullies in pretty spectacular fashion.As daft as all that sounds,this is actually a pretty decent film with some good performances,a fast pace and a lot of excellent gore including a guy having his heart ripped from his body,an awesome exploding head scene,another victim is eaten alive by a hord of pigs and theres plenty more for those of you with strong stomachs.Well worth tracking down an uncut version as the current uk release is missing over 3 mins of gore.

The first of only 2 british made films to make the list (the second being "XTRO").This stars udo kier as a writer who moves to a small village to finish his latest book.Things go fine untill his secretary arrives (in the form of the gorgeous linda hayden) and from then on,sex,violence and murder are the order of the day as her real plan for being there becomes clear.Fiona richmond is kier's girlfriend and she has a pretty nasty encounter in the shower.It is pretty nasty in places but dosen't deserve its place on this list.

This is a real stomach turner and unless you are a hard core gore fan then you will be wise not to veiw this.Autopsies,suicide victims,slaughterhouse footage (plenty of it),car crash and airplane disaster victims are just a few of the horrific sights on display here.Allthough,how the film makers expect us to believe that the scenes involving a very fake looking electric chair execution and a rubber alligator attack are real is beyond me.But,just as your having fun watching scenes like that, you are hit with some repulsive,real life animal cruelty that will have you hitting the fast forward button in a hurry.About half an hour of footage is missing from this banned version.

Three convicts on the run take refuge in the home of a black family.While there they terrorize,torture,rape and degrade each member of the family untill the father snaps and the tables are turned.This is about as un pc and as nasty as you can get.The worst scene shows a young boy having his head smashed in with a rock,allthough most prints are missing this scene. In this politically correct day and age i think it is safe to say that you wont be seeing this movie on the video/dvd shelves of your local blockbuster store in the near future, at least not in this uncut form anyway.

A former nazi commandant and one of his female inmates whom he tortured and forced to be a sex slave, return to the deserted camp after he has been cleared of war crimes,but she has more than just a trip down memory lane in mind.There are some pretty nasty flashback scene's, plenty of full frontal nudity and a long,fairly explicit orgy scene just so the film can live upto its title. this one is actually quite well made compared to most of its kind,but if your not a fan of these types of films then your going to find it depressing and unpleasent.

A young family move into a new house,but as it turns out,this is the former home of Dr freudstein who was struck off after being caught performing bizarre experiments,And whats worse is that he is still alive and is continuing his experiments in the basement and using parts of his victims to keep himself alive.As this is a lucio fulci movie you can expect plenty of graphic gore including an excellent knife through the head scene,stabbings,a throat cutting,a throat ripping,a bat attack and loads more.Not as good as the beyond but very close and one of the better films on the list.Worth a look.

david hess and john morghen star in ruggero deodato's nasty film about a couple of misfits who gatecrash a party being held by a group of rich,snobby kids and then preceed to humiliate,torture and rape them.Eventually,the tables are turned on them and they get what they deserve.This is one of the few films on the list that can actually live upto it's nasty tag and the torture and rape scene's are very unpleasent to watch.If your a fan of films like last house on the left then you will know what to expect and may find some sort of enjoyment in this,others should stay well clear.

A young woman takes a trip to an isolated cabin in the woods to work on her book,all gose well untill 4 local thugs take an interest in her.She is humilliated,gang raped 3 times,beaten and left for dead,but she survives and takes the law into her own hands to get revenge on them.The gang rape scenes are brutal and about as realistic as you can get without it actually being real and are hard to sit through.The revenge scenes are not that gory,but the bathroom castration scene will make every man watching it cross his legs and wince.Its a good,well made film and worth watching,but be warned,it is strong stuff.

If there is a film that deserves it's reputation as a "video nasty" then this is it.A young couple pay a visit to a greek island,while there they take it in turns to have sex with the locals while the other watches and takes pictures,then they kill them in all sorts of nasty ways.They have sex with each other,which wouldn't be a bad thing,except they are brother and sister.A middle aged woman is beaten and pissed on,a gay couple are terrorized and murdered,a goat is shagged and then has its throat slit,a man is crucified to the floor and forced to drink paint untill he chokes to death.All is going well for them untill a detective arrives from the mainland and when the local police get involved the couple make a run for it and hide out in a hut with a mute farmer,only he has more than hiding them on his mind and soon the tables are turned on them.This film is about as un-pc as you can get and is NOT for the squemish or easily offended.

Two young girls on their way to a rock concert attempt to buy some dope to enhance their night out,the only problem is,the dealer turns out to be david hess and as genre fans will know,this cannot mean a happy ending.Hess,along with his three sidekicks kidnap the two girls and take them into the woods where they are abused,humiliated,tortured,raped and eventually murdered.The gang take refuge in a house that just happens to be the home of one of the murdered girls.Eventually the truth becomes clear and the parents take out their own form of revenge on the gang.Directed by wes craven this is a brutal,savage film that is not for all tastes and the fact that it is actually well made adds an extra touch of realism to it.One of the few titles that can live up to its reputation as a "video nasty".

The deranged twin sister of a pretty young school teacher escapes from a mental asylum, and with the aid of a vicious dog sets out to provide a less than happy birthday treat for her sister,whom she blames for putting her in the madhouse.Some decent gore,along with a scene involving a power drill and the dog which will offend animal lovers,make this a decent time filler.Medusa released two versions of this film,an uncut tape which has both front and spine stickers on the cassette,and a cut version that is missing the tapes spine sticker.The same gose for their release of absurd which also made this list.

This is basiclly the same story as blood feast that was made by h.g.lewis.In this film an aztec priest hangs around a few strip joints and kidnaps bad actresses to sacrifice to some goddess.Theres one fairly graphic gore effect that is repeated many times throughout the film but that dosen't make this awful film any more fun to sit through.If your a fan of blood feast than you may just manage to sit through this,all others should just be thankful this has gone back into obscurity where it belongs.

This mad and totally awful mexican horror film is about a doctor who transplants the heart of a gorilla into his dying son.The operation gose very well but once the lad wakes up he turns into a half man half ape creature who rapes and kills everyone he comes into contact with.Eventually he sets his sights on a young woman who just happens to be a professional wrestler,she dosen't like the advances of this hairy creature and basiclly kicks the crap out of him.Theres loads of cheap gore and plenty of bad acting to keep you amused,allthough there is some pretty graphic,real life open heart surgery footage near the start,this is proberly what got the film banned in the first place as there is nothing else here than can even be remotely considered offensive.

A group of collage students take a trip into the forest to see if the rumors about bigfoot are true.After hearing a story about a young girl who was raped by such a creature they track her down to a small isolated cabin,but while there they are all trapped by the bigfoot and are slaughtered.The film itself is pretty awful,but there is plenty of graphic gore including,what is in my opinion,one of the best death scenes ever,where a biker is relieved of his wedding tackle after peeing on the creature who is hiding in a bush,its a little eye watering, but a very funny scene.
NIGHTMARES IN A DAMAGED BRAIN

This is one of the few movies on the list that can actually be called a video nasty and live upto its reputation.Its an extremely gory and often very violent film about a young man who has spent many years undergoing drug therapy for being a sex offender and a psychopath.The doctors decide he is now well enough to re-enter society and release him,but he is still having violent flashbacks to his childhood when he caught his parents having a bondage session and axes them to death.Eventually he snaps and begins to terrorize a young single mother and her children.This film takes explicit sex and violence and mixes them together well.throw in lots of very graphic gore and you have what is easily one of the nastiest and sleeziest of the nasties.

This title earned its place on the list more because of the fairly tasteless video cover than for the film itself.The sight of a naked woman hanging upside down on a cross that people saw as they entered their local video shop was more than enough for our moral guardians,and onto the list it went.The film itself is a fairly standard outing with all the usual humiliation,torture,naked women and very dodgy accents that you would expect from a nazi camp movie,and one very graphic piece of real life medical operation footage,but despite all that it manages to be more of a comedy than the sleezy,horrific film it should be.

Some pretty graphic gore and plenty of stylish scenes make this entry on the list well worth watching.Directed by dario argento, it concerns an american writer who creates detective stories getting involved in a series of murders where the victims are dispatched in the same way as the victims in the writers new book.Not as good as suspiria or inferno but alot better than some of argento's latter work.With a cast that includes daria nicolodi, john saxon, ania pieroni, john steiner and a plot that is slightly more coherent than most of argento's films this is worth tracking down, just dont try and figure out why this title was officially banned.

Paul naschy is back playing a werewolf for what i believe to be the 8th time in this typically awful spanish film.The yeti of the title makes a 5 min apperence at the end of the film for the fight scene and looks as daft as naschy's werewolf.The gore effects,what there are of them,are very poor and so is the acting.If your a fan of naschy's films,and im sure there must be one or two of you out there,you may find something of interest here,all others should give this movie a wide birth.,And because this is one of the hardest titles to track down from the list that shouldn't be to much of a problem.

One of the more popular and well known titles on the list,lucio fulci's zombie classic has some awesome gore effects including the now infamous splinter in the eye scene,a graphic throat ripping, plenty of excellent zombie make-up,and a scene involving a shark attack that quentin tarantino once described as "the wildest scene he has ever seen in a movie".If you any sort of horror fan you will allready know the story,so i wont go into details here. All i will say is, if you cannot track down this uncut video then grab yourself a fully uncut dvd from the states and enjoy this great splatterfest in all its gory glory.
